Stress is a part of everyday life.  It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do, you are going to get stressed out on occasion.

The sad part about stress – stress in one part of life can spill over into other areas, affecting not only you, but also everyone around you including your husband, kids and friends. When Supermoms often feel that they have to do all and be all, this leads to overload, which can in turn lead to illness, depression or screaming at the kids for no apparent reason, followed by feelings of guilt because you just yelled at your child.

If that’s not bad enough, you then find yourself wanting to just run away from it all.

When that happens, I strongly encourage you to lose the guilt about needing a break. I struggled with this for years and felt like a horrible mother for needing a break from my child and husband – but as guilty as I felt, it needed to happen. And when I returned, I was more refreshed and happier to be around (with lots of hugs to go around).

So reality check:  These feelings will happen to everyone on occasion.  If you can learn how to head off stress and handle it when it does rear it’s ugly head, then you’ll be better off and feel more in control of what’s happening to you.

So what are simple things that we can do each day to keep stress at bay?

  • Meditation
  • Journaling (amazing how much this helps)
  • Prayer to a Higher Power
  • Yoga
  • Deep breathing exercises
  • Physical Exercise

These have all been proven to bring more calmness into life, and in the case of physical exercise, will you help you burn off stress AND calories. Now there’s a win-win!

Be determined to take time every day, even if it’s just ten minutes, to participate in a relaxing activity.

And remember – YOU are busier as a mom and have more responsibilities. It’s okay to give yourself a break as mommy so you and your family stay happy and content.
